Sculpture, Lion blessé aux flèches - 42 cm - Resin, Painting, Plaster

Great wounded lion with arrows – after Charles Valton – plaster sculpture with bronze patina – 20th century Great wounded lion with arrows – after Charles Valton Important animal sculpture representing a lion in full action, wounded by two arrows, in a particularly expressive and dynamic composition. The sculpture presents a very detailed depiction of the feline: taut musculature, opened jaws, exposed fangs, body movement and a mane worked with care. The work is made in molded plaster with a finish/patina imitating bronze gold, giving the whole the characteristic appearance of an ancient bronze sculpture. The composition shows strong similarities with Charles Valton's animal models (1851–1918) devoted to wounded felines by arrows. Bronze versions of this composition are known on the art market, while patinated plaster versions “after Charles Valton” are also documented. However, the present sculpture bears no apparent signature of Charles Valton and is therefore offered as a work executed after the artist's model, and not as an original signed by Charles Valton. Subject: wounded lion with arrows Artist/model: after Charles Valton (1851–1918) Material: molded plaster Finish: patina/bronze-gold imitation paint Arrows: two removable metal elements in steel Dimensions: 60 cm in length × 42 cm in height × 17 cm in depth Base: 60 × 17 × 11 cm Weight: 7.25 kg Signature: no apparent signature Ancient condition showing signs of wear, small chips, finish losses, and age/manipulation marks visible in the photographs. The patina naturally shows variations, wear zones and some traces of oxidation/aged appearance giving the sculpture its antique character. The two arrows are removable and can be taken out and then put back in place. The photographs are an integral part of the description of the conservation state. The photographs feature a background replaced with the help of artificial intelligence to enhance the work's presentation. The object itself has not undergone any digital modification: its shape, proportions, colors, patina, materials, wear, chips, defects, and the two arrows are depicted as they actually are on the object.
