Scio, Ohio. $5 1882 Date Back. Fr. 537. Farmers & Producers NB. Charter #5197. PCGS Banknote Very Good 10. Little more than a hamlet in Harrison County roughly an hour south of Canton, Scio is a tough "one-bank town" and a rare charter by the standards of Ohio. Served by the Farmers and Producers National Bank (Charter# 5197) which records only eight notes in the National Bank Note Census, this institution was among a select few in Ohio outside of a major city to issue Series of 1882 Date Backs. Today only two examples of the type are recorded here by the NBNC and this well-circulated $5 which features the signatures of Cashier W.J. Lewis and President J.W. Shambaugh is the only the example of its type to have been offered at auction and appeared most recently in 2003 making this a truly rare opportunity to be had. Estimate: $800 - $1,200. Provenance: From the Jack Copeland Currency Collection, Part IV. Click here for certification details from PCGS Banknote.
