A study devoted to early 15th-century Flemish painting, a formative period in Western art exemplified by Jan van Eyck, Rogier van der Weyden, Hans Memling, and Dirk Bouts. The volume, richly illustrated with high-quality photographic plates, analyzes the technical innovations, meticulous realism, and spirituality that characterize the masters of the Low Countries.
