San Diego, California. $10 1902 Plain Back. Fr. 630. Union NB. Charter #10435. PCGS Currency Very Fine 20 Apparent. Small Stain at Left of Center. Representative of the Union National Bank of San Diego (Charter# 10435) which ultimately fell to liquidation at the hands of the Bank of Italy/Bank of America National Trust & Savings Association of San Francisco (Charter# 13044) in 1927. Notes on this institution are quite scarce with only 12 notes recorded by the National Bank Note Census and that figure includes only four $10 Plains Backs. This example in nonetheless unique in one regard as the only one of those four to feature the bank/bank serial number format introduced in 1925 while faint, but extant signatures attributable to (Assistant) Cashier G.N. Sanger and President George Robert Daley are sure to help distinguish this note in the eyes of a specialist. PCGS Currency comments "Small Stain at Left of Center." Estimate: $2,000 - $3,000.
