Set of four oil paintings on cardboard (plein air studies) by Samuel Frère (Mont-Saint-Aignan, 1845 – Rouen, 1931), a Norman landscape painter, president of the Société artistique de Normandie, friend and biographer of the painter Albert Lebourg. The four studies, painted on site, depict Norman landscapes: a village Gothic church overlooking a road, a woodland scene with a carriage and horses, a seaside scene with two walkers, and a steep cliff overlooking the coast. Two of the works are signed and dated 1903, at the bottom right. Technique: oil on cardboard. Dimensions: 23 × 13 cm (frame not included) each. Condition: generally good for studies of that period; wear and small losses at the edges, light surface rubbing (see photos). Unframed works. Provenance: private collection, Île-de-France region.
