Giovanni Stefano Menochio (1575-1655), called Ménochius: Italian Jesuit, famous for his biblical commentary. Notable feature – French Masonic alphabet One of the volumes bears a completely hand-written inscription in black ink, written in the French Masonic alphabet, placed precisely at the beginning of the Gospel of Saint John, a text that holds an important place in Masonic tradition. According to its deciphering, this inscription evokes fraternal love, the love of one Brother for another, a fundamental value of Freemasonry. This alphabet is based notably on two geometric figures: The Square of Saturn, consisting of nine squares. The Saint Andrew’s Cross, in the shape of an X.
