Rykken & Co - Elsa & Nordahl Solheim - Armchair (2) - Wood

2 × Rybo Rykken Kengu Lounge Chairs – Norway – Mid-Century Modern – Black leather and bentwood Description: This distinctive pair of Kengu lounge chairs was made by Rybo Rykken & Co. in Norway. The visible manufacturer stamp “RYKKEN & CO A – MADE IN NORWAY” on the wooden frame confirms the Norwegian origin. The model is associated with Scandinavian furniture design of the 1960s and 1970s and is attributed to Elsa and Nordahl Solheim. The chairs combine generously upholstered seating and back surfaces with a distinctive button tufting and elegantly curved wooden frames. The organic lines give the construction a dynamic, almost hovering presence. The contrast between the warm wood tone and the dark upholstery emphasizes the sculptural character of the design. Condition: Both chairs show clear age- and use-related marks. The upholstery exhibits, particularly at the front edge of the seat, more pronounced wear, discoloration, creases, and other surface traces. Also on the undersides there are signs of wear as well as indications of previous alterations to the fastenings/materials. The stability of the frames, the spring action, and the condition of the upholstery filling should be checked before further use. Please refer to the detail photos for a comprehensive assessment of the condition. The two chairs are offered as a single, matching pair. With their distinctive form and the documented Norwegian maker mark, they are an interesting addition for collectors of Scandinavian design and lovers of Mid-Century Modern interiors.
