Depicts a Native American male figure in a seated, contemplative pose. The figure is positioned on a vibrantly patterned rug or blanket featuring geometric motifs in blue, yellow, pink, ochre, and black. He is portrayed holding a long ceremonial pipe, or calumet, to his lips. The figure is dressed in a yellowish-red tunic with dark fringed detailing and a striped shawl in shades of blue, orange, and red draped over his shoulders. The two circular fastens on the front are in hues of yellow and lilac. He wears a simple yellow headband over black hair. A small, rounded pot with a zigzag orange and green pattern sits on the rug beside him. The piece is constructed of glazed polychrome ceramic. The base is marked with the Royal Doulton backstamp.
