All auctions / Arts & Graphics / Roy Lichtenstein - “As i opened Fire”. Triptych.

Triptych “As I Opened Fire,” based on the original paintings from 1964 by Roy Lichtenstein, from the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam. Each poster is in mint condition. This triptych is inspired by the comic strip "All American Men of War." The three images in "As I Opened Fire" work together to tell a story. The narrative is reinforced by carefully added text. This work references a revolution in art in the 1960s. Formally, Lichtenstein appropriated images from popular culture. He placed them in an art-context by enlarging them, altering them slightly, and painting them on canvas. In doing so, the artist blurred the boundary between high and low art. He followed a strict, self-imposed formal vocabulary. Lichtenstein emphasized primary colors, black outlines, and enlarged Benday dots that are often seen in mechanical reproductions. This work, a typical example of Pop Art, can be understood as a response to abstract expressionism. Lichtenstein responds with the erasure of the artist’s hand in his painting. Never framed and stored in a dark archival storage under protective acid-free paper. The shown photographs are part of the description, The shown frame(s) (size) are for illustration and are not included.
