ROUILLE D'ORFEUIL (Augustin). L'Alambic moral, ou Analyse ra - Lot 477

ROUILLE D'ORFEUIL (Augustin). L'Alambic moral, ou Analyse raisonnée de tout ce qui a rapport à l'homme. By the Ami des François. Maroc [Paris], 1773. In-8, marbled calf, ornate spine, green title page, red edges (Binding of the period). Goldsmiths, n°10955. - INED, n°3937. First edition of this very varied and interesting dictionary, containing theories on the excellence of population and agriculture, the need to moderate industry, the dangers of luxury, the colonies and the corruption of morals, etc. Rouillé d'Orfeuil, alias l'Ami des Français, was a former infantry colonel. Baron Grimm, in his Correspondance, described him as a political dreamer. There are 2 editions under the same date, with identical collation, without it being possible to determine the primacy of one over the other: one of them (which is not ours) differs in that it contains on the verso of the title a printed note asking the reader to refer to an errata leaf, and another note at the bottom of leaf Mm4. In both cases, the collation is identical and the text is uncorrected, with the same typos. Without errata leaf, a few freckles. 9785/343
