Rosenthal Manufacturer: Rosenthal (Kunst-Abteilung – Art Department), factory in Selb, Bavaria. Year of production: 1917 (World War I). Complete markings and signatures (visible on the bottoms): Kriegsmarke (War Signature): A unique, overglaze stamp in the shape of a shield with the Iron Cross and the dates 1914 (top) and 1917 (bottom), used only during wartime years. Factory logo: Classic crown with crossed lines and the inscription Rosenthal / Kunst-Abteilung / SELB-BAVARIA. Authorship signatures: Handwritten, overglaze inscriptions “Entwurf von Ph. Rosenthal” (design of the form by the brand’s founder) and “gemalt v. A. Keitel” (painter’s signature). On the bottom of the lid and the cup there are also handwritten marks/numbers of the goldsmith decorating the edges.
