Coin: Silver Denarius. Culture: Roman Republic. Monetary Magistrate: M. Baebius Q.f. Tampilus (137 B.C.). Obverse: Head of the goddess Roma with a winged helmet looking to the left. Inscription TAMPIL behind the neck and the denomination mark X (ten asses) under the chin. Reverse: Apollo driving a chariot at a gallop to the right, holding the reins, a branch, and a bow with arrows. Under the horses, the inscription ROMA. At the bottom (exergue), the legend M·BAEBI·Q·F. Legal tender or not: Not legal tender. Any damage: Normal wear from ancient circulation. The horses' hooves preserve spectacular relief and the legends are complete and perfectly legible. Silver/Gold content: Silver. Weight (in grams): ~3.8 g Catalog/entry number: Crawford 236/1.
