On the reference 228235, the richness of the 18K pink gold case is tempered by the deep, changing tones of the dial, which moves from muted green to warmer olive hues according to the light. Framed by the sharply fluted bezel, the result is both immediately recognisable and unusually refined. The dial preserves the classical architecture that has defined the Day-Date since 1956. The day is displayed in full through the arched aperture at 12 o’clock, while the date at 3 o’clock is magnified beneath Rolex’s Cyclops lens. Applied pink gold hour markers and hands echo the case and bracelet, creating a particularly harmonious relationship between dial and metal. Inside, the self-winding calibre 3255 represents a major technical evolution of the Day-Date, offering Rolex’s Chronergy escapement and approximately 70 hours of power reserve. Its instantaneous calendar mechanism allows both the day and date to change rapidly around midnight, combining everyday practicality with the traditional character of the model. Completing the watch is the full 18K pink gold President bracelet, whose semi-circular links have been inseparable from the identity of the Day-Date for generations. In this 40 mm format, the combination of olive green, fluted gold and the President bracelet gives the reference 228235 a distinctive balance of presence and elegance. The present 2021 example is accompanied by its original fitted box and warranty.
