Rogers, Texas. $20 1882 Value Back. Fr. 581. First NB. Charter #5704. PCGS Banknote Very Fine 30. Named in honor of a railroad executive during the 1880s, Rogers traces a history typical of many rural towns across Texas. During the 1890s and 1900s, Rogers grew quickly owing to its position along the Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe Railway and within a few decades it became home to a handful of banks including the First National Bank (Charter# 5704) which thrived thanks to nearby agricultural concerns. Yet the fortunes of this institution are unclear when one looks beyond 1935, but notes on this bank are fairly scarce with 26 non-institutional notes recorded including a handful of Series of 1882 Value Backs. There this note is not the finest, but offers a strong degree of eye appeal for the grade assigned amplified by distinct stamped signatures attributable to Cashier W.B. Thomas and President J.H. Wear which echo the day this note likely circulated for the last time during the early 1920s. Estimate: $1,250 - $1,750. Provenance: From the Jack Copeland Currency Collection, Part IV.
