Roger Caillois - L'écriture des pierres - 1970

Exciting numbered edition 680/1000 copies. This singular illustrated work sits at the crossroads of literature, aesthetics, philosophy and natural history, in which the author draws attention to the mysterious forms, drawings, striations, stains, veining and configurations presented by certain natural stones— Far from considering these minerals as mere geological objects, Caillois observes them as plastic manifestations capable of evoking in human beings an impression of writing, of language or of representation, even though they are produced by natural phenomena devoid of artistic intention— The title of the work thus summarizes a fundamental idea of Caillois, that of a nature which sometimes appears to spontaneously produce signs and figures comparable to those that humans develop through writing, drawing or painting— Roger Caillois - L'écriture des pierres - 1970 - Albert Skira - 131 Pages.
