For sale is this rare original Rimowa travel trunk suitcase (Überseekoffer) from the 1950s in nice, fully functional condition. It was among the very first generation of Rimowa suitcases which featured the iconic Rimowa grooves. Rimowa introduced its distinctive groove design in 1950, inspired by the outer aluminum skin of early aircraft. The grooves were developed under Richard Morszeck, son of the company’s founder, to reinforce the lightweight aluminum shell. This engineering choice formed the cornerstone for the famous Rimowa hallmark we are familiar with today. Dimensions: inside: 84 x 47 x 29 cm outside: 85 x 50 x 30 cm This suitcase not only impresses due to its important place in brand history, but also because of its particularly nice condition. While the outside features the typical Rimowa patina, the interior is in strikingly well preserved, nearly flawless, fresh and very pleasantly scented condition. (Key is included) Over the decades, this once top of the notch lightweight travel trunk turned into a piece of history, marking arguably the most important turning point in the brand history of Rimowa. It forms a symbol for boundary pushing engineering, iconic industrial design, status, and humanity’s constant drive for progress. Nowadays, this Rimowa trunk still offers many possibilities of use, especially in interior decoration.
