A large vintage double-sided enamel sign for Renault, featuring the brand's iconic Vasarely diamond logo — designed by op-art pioneer Victor Vasarely (with his son Yvaral) in 1972 — rendered in bold yellow, black, and white, with "RENAULT" spelled across the center band. Measuring 115 x 78 cm, this substantial diamond-shaped sign was originally displayed at an authorized Renault dealership or service garage, mounted to project from the building or hang perpendicular to the street so it could be read from both directions. The striped, parallel-line pattern within the diamond is specific to the logo Renault used from 1972 until 1992, when it was replaced by a smoother 3D relief design — placing this sign firmly within that era, most likely the 1970s. The yellow background is also period-correct, historically the color Renault reserved for its commercial dealer network (as distinct from red for trucks and green for agricultural equipment). Being double-sided, the sign was designed for maximum visibility as street or forecourt signage, identical on both faces, and mounted via drilled corner holes for bracket installation. The sign shows honest wear consistent with genuine period use: surface rust and enamel chipping along the edges and points of the diamond on both sides, with the core colors and lettering remaining bold and legible throughout. CONDITION: There is some slight rusting around the edges, normal with a sign of this age.
