Reed and Barton - Salt and pepper shakers (2) - No: 70 - .925 silver

REED & BARTON - STERLING - WEIGHTED AND REINFORCED - 70 • Maker: Reed & Barton, Taunton, Massachusetts, USA. One of the oldest and most well-known American silversmiths, established in 1824. • Material: The exterior is genuine 925 sterling silver; the base is weighted (filled with pitch)—hence the designation "Weighted and Reinforced." This was done to provide greater stability and a more substantial, luxurious feel. • Model: No. 70, a classic Art Deco / Mid-Century shaker-style design, dating from approximately 1920–1950. • A matching salt and pepper set designed in the shape of cocktail shakers, featuring a charming little finial (tower) on top. Condition as shown in the photos: vintage, pre-owned condition, with some scratches, dull spots, and minor pitting near the holes. This is typical for weighted sterling silver pieces that are nearly 100 years old. Not polished. Reed & Barton - Pair of Sterling Silver Salt & Pepper Shakers - Model No. 70 - Weighted & Reinforced - USA For sale: A charming vintage pair of American Sterling Silver salt and pepper shakers by Reed & Barton. Both shakers are marked on the bottom with: REED & BARTON / STERLING / WEIGHTED AND REINFORCED / 70. Model No. 70, produced in the first half of the 20th century, circa 1920s-1950s. Classic design with dome top and finial. Condition: Good vintage condition with normal signs of age and use. Light surface scratches, tarnish and minor pitting near the holes, as visible on photos. Sterling part is intact. Bottom caps fit well. The weighted bases give them a nice solid feel.
