Intense hues from purple to lavender with crystalline sparkle — This lot features a sculptural specimen of "Agata Uva", a prized botryoidal chalcedony variety from Sulawesi Island, Indonesia. The object has been skillfully worked to obtain a spherical shape on the bottom, while the upper part reveals a natural cavity that unveils its spectacular original structure. This fusion of human intervention and geological creation gives life to a piece of considerable visual impact, occupying a middle ground between a mineral for collectors and an art object. The upper surface of the specimen is a triumph of globular aggregates, reminiscent of small grape berries and giving this mineral its commercial name. These chalcedony micro-spheres display a color range from delicate lavender to deep, saturated violet. An attentive observation reveals that each "berry" is coated with a very fine crystallization of druzy quartz, which captures light and refracts it into countless sparkling points, lending the entire surface a vitreous and almost sugary luster. The composition is not uniform, but creates a dynamic and three-dimensional mineral landscape. One observes a kind of "river" or band of botryoidal aggregates in a darker, more compact violet that traverses the cavity, creating a fascinating contrast with the lighter surrounding areas. The lower part, worked into a sphere, shows translucent chalcedony with softer violet hues, allowing appreciation of the raw material from which the aggregates developed. Scattered among the violet spheres one can glimpse minute traces of a greenish mineral, probably celadonite, which adds another touch of chromatic complexity. Agata Uva is a relatively recent discovery in the world of mineralogy, found exclusively in a specific area of Indonesia. Its formation is tied to hydrothermal processes in volcanic rocks. Silica-rich fluids slowly percolated within cavities and fractures of the host rock. Under specific temperature and pressure conditions, silica deposited layer by layer around microscopic nuclei, growing radially to form the characteristic spherical or botryoidal structures. The violet color is attributed to the presence of trace elements and the particular microcrystalline structure of quartz. This specimen represents a superb addition to any mineral collection, both for the relative rarity of the material and for the aesthetic quality of its formation. The combination of such a peculiarly natural shape and the craftsmanship that enhances it makes it a unique piece, ideal for display as a natural sculpture in a studio, a library, or a design environment. It is an object that engages with the concept of Wunderkammer, or cabinet of curiosities, where nature is celebrated in its most curious and fascinating forms. Its origin from a single world locality further increases its appeal to the most demanding collectors.
