Ca. 490 BC. A black-figure lekythos with a cylindrical body tapering to a disc foot, a sloping shoulder, narrow neck and flaring mouth, with a single loop handle joining the neck to the shoulder. Radiating tongues and dotted bands decorate the shoulder. The figured panel depicts Heracles at the left, wearing the Nemean lion skin and fighting Hippolyta, Queen of the Amazons, at the right. Both are flanked by mounted figures. Broad black bands encircle the lower body. For similar see: The British Museum, Museum number 1863,0728.242.
