This tall, cylindrical stoneware vase is an early work by R.W. Martin, the founding member of the Martin Brothers pottery. The piece is crafted from salt-glazed stoneware and features an elaborate Egyptian Revival decorative program. The body is decorated with incised and painted figures in tan and dark brown slip, depicting various figures in ancient Egyptian-style dress. One figure is shown seated holding a lotus blossom, while another stand holding a bundle of flowers. The composition is further detailed with vertical columns of incised faux hieroglyphics. The base is accented with a band of cobalt blue geometric triangular patterns, and a single cobalt line encircles the rim. The underside of the base features the incised signature RW Martin followed by London and the date 4-1876. Dimensions: 4.00"L x 4.00"W x 9.25"H Condition Request Condition Report Good
