QUINO — MAFALDA 1: HOW'S THE WORLD DOING? — FIRST FRENCH EDI - Lot 242

QUINO — MAFALDA 1: HOW'S THE WORLD DOING? — FIRST FRENCH EDITION, 1972 QUINO [Joaquín Salvador Lavado Tejón]. Mafalda 1. How’s the World Doing? Paris, Édition spéciale, 1972. Large paperback album with a full-color illustrated cover. French translation by Jacques and Anne-Marie Meunier. First French edition, published in 1972. The BnF confirms that *How’s the World Doing?* is volume 1 of the French *Mafalda* series published by Édition spéciale beginning in 1972. The “printed” date is September 15, 1972, Imprimerie Moderne de l’Est in Besançon, edition no. 139, legal deposit 3rd quarter of 1972. It is therefore of genuine bibliophilic interest: this is not a modern reprint but the first French album edition of Mafalda. Its reception in France is documented as early as November 1972, when *Le Monde* published an article on the first albums released by Édition Spéciale. Fair condition: cover is scuffed, soiled, and stained; small tear with a missing section at the top edge; worn corners and edges; interior is in better condition.
