Collector Specimen — This specimen comes from the famous Huanzala mine, a locality renowned for the formation of pyrites of exceptionally aesthetic quality. The sample’s structure is a natural interlacing of metallic crystals that fully showcases the mineralogical power of this deposit. The pyrite presents perfectly formed crystals, with geometry that is neat and luminous. The reflective facets are typical of the locality: smooth, almost mirror-like surfaces, with a deep golden color that never shifts toward pale. The aggregates show a predominance of pentagonal dodecahedral and modified cubic forms, with three-dimensional growth rich in natural cleavage planes and micro-sawpaths from hydrothermal development. Framing the pyrite, like a dark embroidery that enhances its brilliance, is the iron-rich sphalerite (marmatite variety). Here it appears as black microcrystals, compact and finely grained, with a resinous-metallic luster. Marmatite is a classic indicator of Huanzala’s hydrothermal sulfide-metallic environments, where pyrite, sphalerite and galena form stable assemblages during mineralization. The Huanzala mine is a polymetallic hydrothermal deposit formed during the Andean magmatic activity of the Miocene.
