Florence, Italy, hand-painted and gilt ceramic, signed and numbered in gilt, the first modeled as the full length Madonna with flowing robes, featuring Christ child in symbolic gesture of blessing and hypostatic union (17 1/2 x 13 x 8 in.), and the other a bust form representation of the Madonna in prayer gesture mounted on a wooden stand (11 x 7 x 7 in.). Collection of the Leggett Family, Danville, Virginia Eugenio Pattarino (1885-1971) was an Italian sculptor and ceramicist known for his religious ceramic works. He is particularly known for his terracotta and glazed ceramic statues, often large and highly detailed, depicting religious figures such as saints, angels, and biblical scenes. Pattarino worked mainly in Florence, where he ran a workshop that produced pieces for churches and private collections. His works are appreciated for their artistic quality, fine detail and expressiveness. They are often characterized by bright colors and elaborate finishing. His work is still sought after by collectors of religious art and lovers of Italian ceramics.
