Produzione Kutch (Gujarat) Artigianato tradizionale...

A tribal textile tapestry embroidered with mirrors – India / Gujarat (Kutch) – 20th century 185 x 116 cm (No. 6) Large handmade artisanal tapestry, entirely crafted by hand, characterized by a rich geometric decoration with embroidery in deep purple thread, small mirrors applied and traditional motifs typical of the textile art of Gujarat/Kutch, in northwestern India. The composition features an important central cruciform design framed by concentric borders and an outer dentellated band with strong decorative impact. The work displays refined craftsmanship of mirror work embroidery, a traditional technique widespread in the tribal communities of Kutch, famous for the use of small hand-sewn mirrors and symbolic geometric motifs. The reverse confirms the handmade execution and the age of the artifact. The tapestry shows normal signs of wear and aging, with some thread losses, discolorations and small defects consistent with long use and storage, as visible in the photographs. These characteristics testify to its authenticity and vintage/ethnographic character. P.S. This piece is part of a rich collection of tapestries of varying sizes, all hand-embroidered with different colors, patterns and ages.
