The jewellery of the 1960s is characterized by optimism and a belief in progress. After the organic shapes of the 1950s, a new desire for geometry returned in the age of the space race. Rings, bracelets, necklaces, earrings - the preferred colour was once again white, like the stars. The settings of the designs left behind the heavy, shiny yellow and rose gold tones of the retro style, and increasingly dissolved into a network of white gold bars. The delicate structures of space equipment, the antennas of Sputnik, but also the skeletal structures of the new high-rise buildings may have been the inspiration here. It was not for nothing that a brooch with the name "Kosmos" won the prize for the jewel of the year in 1967, see here. This work corresponds to this style. Bright white gold and sparkling diamonds have come together to create a heavenly appearance. The center of the design is set with an untreated, unheated and intensely radiant ruby from Burma. Due to their outstanding quality, rubies from Burma are among the most precious gemstones of all and are often more valuable than diamonds. Their classic location is in the area around Mogok in present-day Myanmar. Rubies from other locations, such as Thailand or Africa, are nowadays almost always heated to improve their color and purity. This is often not necessary for rubies from Mogok - their color and beauty do not require any improvement. The brooch is made of high-carat white gold and is in very good condition. It was most probably made in Germany in the 1960s.
