Veracruz culture warrior statuette. Statuette depicting a standing warrior, one arm raised. He is wearing an adornment and carries a necklace with three elongated elements, ear and nose rings, and he is dressed in a loincloth. The warrior's body is partly painted with black tar called chapopote. The statuette is pierced with a hole in the back and an orifice at the shoulder. It produces a whistling sound when blown into the orifice. These statuettes were sometimes ceremonial whistles like this one Mexico, Veracruz culture, 350 / 700 AD. Dimensions: height 18.7 cm - width 13.6 cm Very good condition - small losses - restoration Provenance: Germany, H.T.A. gallery. Previously: Private collection of West Germany, KB, in Germany since at least 1971. Accompanied by an export license issued by the German cultural authorities.
