Beautiful antique neo-Renaissance bronze/brass inkstand with double inkpots and decorative reliefs. France 19th century. Atmospheric and richly detailed antique inkstand (écritoire) from the late 19th century, made in bronze or brass with a fine patina. The rectangular tray rests on subtle feet and is equipped with two graceful volute-shaped handles on the sides. This magnificent object is quite large (47 cm!) and contains two hinged inkpots placed on a raised base with storage/pen holder. The inkpots are decorated all around with striking mascarons (grotesque faces/lion heads) and acanthus leaves, typical of the neo-Renaissance. The lids hinge properly and the whole is complete, including the removable original glass pots inside, which is quite rare. A beautiful, practical, rich and decorative collector’s item that gives a classic, historic look to any desk or library interior.
