Post-medieval Iron Hand-forged hinge scissors...

This hand-forged iron hinge-cutting shear dates from the 17th/18th century. Around the 17th century, the hinge-cutting shear established its definitive dominance in the Netherlands, largely replacing the much older 'nip shear' (or bracket shear with a sprung rear part). Dimensions: 21.2 x 9.2 x 3.9 cm Weight: 213.36 g Condition: conserved - working state Primitive pivot pin: The coarse, protruding pin with which the two blades are riveted together is characteristic of local forging work from the 17th and 18th centuries. Only from the late 18th century (with the early Industrial Revolution from around 1760) did screws and flat rivets become standard. Unpolished wrought iron: The shear is not cast or machine-rolled, but hammered by a smith into shape by hand from a single piece of iron. Robust asymmetry: If you look closely at the finger holes, you can see the subtle inequalities that belong to pure handcraft. Shipping method: this lot is excellently packaged for shipment via DHL or UPS through Catawiki's smart shipping
