1. Technical data Author: Signed, unidentified author School: European Post-Impressionist school Era: Mid-20th century, circa 1940–1960 Technique: Oil on canvas Unframed dimensions: 100 x 81 cm Framed dimensions: 110 x 91 cm Subject: Large floral composition Signature: Signed in the bottom right corner; handwriting partially legible and awaiting identification Support and condition: Canvas mounted on a wooden stretcher. The work presents a pictorial surface rich in materiality, with abundant impasto and palette knife applications. Condition: Generally good state of conservation, with normal signs of age and handling. It is recommended to carefully consult the photographs, which are an essential part of the lot description. 2. Description Impressive large-format oil on canvas belonging to the European post-Impressionist tradition of the mid-20th century. The work represents an exuberant floral composition built from energetic brushwork, abundant impasto, and intense chromatic exploration. The artist deliberately dispenses with a meticulous botanical description to focus on the strength of color, matter, and movement. Flowers, stems, and leaves are articulated through large pictorial masses of reds, blues, violets, greens, and whites that emerge against a background of gray-green tones. The monumentality of the composition, together with its 100 x 81 cm unframed dimensions, makes the work a piece with strong decorative presence. 3. Stylistic and compositional analysis The painting is situated within an advanced post-Impressionist sensibility, with elements close to chromatic Expressionism of the early and mid-20th century. The composition is organized by an upward movement that starts from a very compact vegetal base and progressively opens toward the top. This structure gives the whole a sense of expansion and vitality. There is no rigid academic construction. The painter works with blotches, overlays, and gestural directions that allow the flowers to appear and disappear within the very pictorial matter. Of particular interest is the contrast between zones of greater definition and others almost abstract, where leaves and petals are reduced to broad strokes of color. The use of a palette knife is particularly visible in the white, red, and blue flowers, as well as in certain leaves and backgrounds, where the paint achieves substantial relief. 4. Color, matter, and pictorial language One of the main values of the work lies in its chromatic treatment. The intense vermilion and crimson reds on the left contrast with ultramarine blues, violets, and deep greens in the center and right sector. Over this base appear whites, pinks, yellows, and acidic greens that act as small luminous impacts and permanently animate the surface. The pictorial matter assumes almost a structural function. The palette knife leaves edges, striations, and accumulations of pigment that allow the process of execution to be physically perceived. The result is a vibrant surface, where texture and color acquire as much importance as the floral motif represented. 5. Expressive dimension More than a traditional floral still life, the work can be understood as an emotional interpretation of nature. The flowers seem to develop toward the exterior of the composition with an almost explosive movement. The central stems generate strong verticality, while the side leaves expand through broad diagonals. This combination introduces a notable sense of energy, growth, and movement. The work still preserves a clear figurative reference, but certain fragments reach an autonomy close to abstraction, especially in the large color blocks and in areas resolved exclusively through matter and gesture. 6. Signature, school, and dating The painting features a signature in the bottom right corner. The handwriting is visible, though it does not currently allow a sufficiently secure identification of the artist, so it is prudently cataloged as a signed work of the Post-Impressionist School. By technique, chromatic treatment, use of the palette knife, and compositional language, the work reasonably situates in the mid-20th century, approximately between the 1940s and 1960s. The approach connects with the European extension of Post-Impressionism and with a painting of an expressive nature in which the natural subject mainly serves as a vehicle to explore color, matter, and gesture. Proposed title: “Grand bouquet of flowers” Alternative titles: “Monumental Bouquet” “Flowers in Expressionist Light” “Large Post-Impressionist Floral Composition” 7. Shipping and conditions The work is delivered with the frame shown in the photographs. Shipping is carried out by a professional specialized company, using protective packaging, a custom-made box, and foam to ensure maximum safety during transport. International shipments are available. Because of the work’s large format, some destinations—especially outside the European Union—may incur additional transport, packaging, or handling costs, which will be borne by the buyer. The frame is offered as a gift and is not part of the essential adjudication value of the work, and therefore will not be subject to complaint.
