Portrait of an Elderly Lady in a Bonnet Niederländisch

This striking portrait depicts an elderly woman in dark clothing with a white collar against a deep, dark background. Her strictly frontal pose, her calm gaze directed towards the viewer, and her hands clasped in front of her body lend the subject a dignified yet immediate presence. Particular attention should be paid to the lifelike rendering of the face, marked by age, and the carefully modelled hands. The restrained colour palette and the focused use of light emphasise the physiognomy, thereby following a key tradition of 17th-century Dutch portrait painting. | 15.-18. Jahrhundert | Gemälde | Nummer: 26x1614 | Provenance: Privatsammlung, Nordrhein-Westfalen (seit mehreren Generationen in Familienbesitz).
