All auctions / Medals, Arms & Armor / Polished Ammonite Half with Mosasaur Tooth and Root, Cretaceous Fossils

North Africa, Morocco Cretaceous. A fossil ammonite cut in half and polished, offered with a mosasaur tooth. The cut runs through the coil and shows the shell growing outward from a small center into wider chambers. Wavy cream-colored walls called septa separate the chambers, which are filled with honey, ochre, and gray mineral. The outer whorl turns a darker brown. Next to it, the curved, conical crown came from a mosasaur, a large sea reptile of the Late Cretaceous. It sits on a broad root of spongy bone that looks like honeycomb. The root and crown are probably a composite of 2 teeth. A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids. Item # 205805
