His reign saw conflicts with Sweden, Muscovy and the Ottoman Empire, while the Commonwealth remained one of Europe’s largest states. The półtorak, worth 1½ groschen and linked to the thaler system, reflects the increasingly interconnected monetary economy of early 17th-century Central Europe.
