pocket wall vases - Porcelain - China - 20th century

This pair of mirror-image Chinese porcelain wall vases belongs to the artistic tradition. The central white reserves depict children engaged in traditional celebrations and outdoor games. In Chinese culture, this theme (often called Baizi or 'Hundred Boys') has ancient origins and is a powerful symbol of fertility, family happiness, and prosperity. It represented the wish to bear many male children to ensure the continuity of the lineage and the family's success in imperial examinations. The dimensions are H 12.5 x 13 x 4.2 cm and they weigh 339 g and 375 g respectively for a total of 714 g. Excellent condition, with no restorations or losses.
