Plate - Porcelain - Meissen-style Qianlong

An exceptional hard-paste porcelain plate from the Chinese Export (East India Company) trade, manufactured in China for the European market during the Qianlong period (1736–1795) and dating to approximately 1740–1750. This piece stands out for its refined decoration in the Famille Rose palette, directly inspired by engravings and scenes from the prestigious German Meissen manufactory. The Western style decoration reflects the fascinating 18th century cultural exchange between East and West. Diameter: 22.5 cm Central Medallion: A finely detailed polychrome river scene depicting a European style fortification or castle, figures in period attire, and vessels flying flags. The scene is framed by an elegant lobed border in shades of purple and gold. Rim and Border: An exquisite, intricate Rococo style border featuring floral motifs, lambrequins, and rinceaux (scrolling foliage) in reddish tones and gold, with touches of cobalt blue. Reverse: An unglazed circular foot rim showing the classic toasted coloration resulting from wood-firing in Jingdezhen kilns. It retains an old cataloging label from a Portuguese auction house (Leiloeira BidAntiques). Condition: Excellent condition; free of hair-line cracks, structural cracks, or chips. The porcelain retains its original integrity and a clear, resonant sound. It has a 1cm scratch on the outside of the footrim but not visible due to its insignificance. Polychromy and Enamels: The colors of the Famille Rose palette remain magnificently vibrant. There is natural, expected wear to the gilding located primarily around the outline of the central scene due to the piece's age and the passage of time.
