Pittsfield, Massachusetts. $5 1875. Fr. 401. Agricultural NB. Charter #1082. PCGS Banknote Very Good 10. Rather sound in technical terms for the grade assigned. This well-circulated Series of 1875 $5 National Bank Note issued by the Agricultural National Bank of Pittsfield (Charter# 1082) is one of 29 pieces recorded on this institution by the National Bank Note Census. Here plain detail is demonstrated throughout by the vignettes seen at left and right entitled Columbus in Sight of Land and America Presented to the Old World while the engraved adaptation of John Vanderlyn's Landing of Columbus offers a like degree of detail amplified by luscious greens found throughout the balance of the back design. Penned signatures attributable to Cashier Irving D. Ferrey and President John Root Warriner may also be noticed and lend a degree of originality that effortlessly cuts above the technical aspects typical of the grade assigned. Estimate: $800 - $1,200. Provenance: From the Jack Copeland Currency Collection, Part IV. Click here for certification details from PCGS Banknote.
