PHILIPPINES. First Philippines International Fair Gilt Bronze Medal, 1953. NGC MS-62. Honeycutt-440. Dimensions: 50 x 32 mm. By Crispulo Zamora & Sons. Blue, red and white enamel. Obverse: Woman's bust on pedestal facing, tablet with ancient Tagalog at base, three-line inscription to left "GATEWAY/ TO THE/ EAST", three-line inscription in exergue "FIRST PHILIPPINES/ INTERNATIONAL/ FAIR-1953"; Reverse: Two-line inscription "CRISPULO ZAMORA SONS/ MANILA". This massive exposition, located behind the Rizal Monument and extended to Intramuros, cost roughly $2 Million. It featured dozens of provinces and cities along with foreign nations and highlighted the post-independence national progress, agriculture and industrial exhibits as well as international pavilions. The event even drew the attention of the reigning first Miss Universe, Armi Kuusela of Finland, who arrived to crown Miss Philippines Maria Cristina Galang. Estimate: $100 - $150.
