PHILIPPINES. Catholic Women's League Bronze Medal, 1931. NGC MS-63. Honeycutt-214. Dimensions: 44 x 31 mm. By Crispulo Zamora. Obverse: Blue, white and yellow enamel on central medallion, legend "CARMELITE SISTERS" in white enamel banner superimposed on "CWL" in yellow enamel and light blue background, "*HOUSE OF THE GOOD SHEPHERD*CATHOLIC WOMEN'S LEAGUE", "CHARITY FAIR/ JAN. 15-18/ 1931" in exergue, all surrounded by floral design; Reverse: Blank, stamped "CRISPULO ZAMORA". The choice uncirculated example displays lovely red-brown coloration with satiny surfaces. Most of the enamel is intact, though a portion of the blue is missing and cracks are noticed. Close inspection reveals evidence of being gilt in the past, now only with remnants amongst the protected areas. Overall a handsome example with a pleasing appearance. This charity event was held to raise funds for local religious and social welfare institutions, such as the Carmelite Sisters and the house of the Good Shepherd. Estimate: $100 - $150.
