Persephone's Return - Amy Bernays

Persephone's Return by Amy Bernays Painting 16.0 x 20.0 :: Persephone was the daughter of Demeter goddess of the harvest. One day while gathering flowers the earth split open and Hades rose up in his chariot to seize her. He carried her to his shadowy realm and made her his queen. Above ground Demeter’s sorrow withered the fields; nothing grew. Zeus moved by the world’s suffering sent Hermes to bring her back. But before she left Hades offered her pomegranate seeds—she ate six binding her to return six months each year. When Persephone rises the earth bursts into bloom; when she descends it sleeps again. Her story is one of love and loss death and rebirth—the turning of the seasons and the light’s return after darkness. :: Type: Painting Medium: Acrylic Style: Impressionist Subject: Animals Width: 16.0 Height: 20.0 Depth: 0.5 Weight: 3 lbs Framed: yes :: All art on Zatista is original and signed.
