Their neighbor was Balzac, who had set up his famous printing press there in 1826, though he was forced to abandon it two years later. Delaroche and Lami lived through the July Days of 1830 together (see P.A. Lemoisne, *Eugène Lami*, Paris, 1912, ed. Goupil, Manzi, and Joyant, successors). Here he is depicted more as a chic dandy than as a disheveled romantic, with his small mustache, much like Delacroix at the same time during his trip to Morocco. At the time, Lami was the drawing instructor to the Princes of Orléans Provenance: - Former collection of Ernest L’ami de Nolan - Galerie La Nouvelle Athènes, Paris Exhibition: - Exhibition of works by Paul Delaroche, Paris, Palais des Beaux-Arts, 1857
