Dimensions of the frame: 65 cm in height x 55 cm in width. Biography of the painter: Patxi Saralegui (Bilbao, 1928 – 2002) was a Basque painter primarily dedicated to figurative painting, especially noted for his still lifes. Throughout his career he developed a painting with traditional roots, showing particular interest in everyday objects, fruits, flowers, ceramics and different elements arranged in careful interior compositions. His works are characterized by the study of light, volume and textures, as well as by a palette generally warm and harmonious. He mainly worked with oil painting, with an expressive and visible brushstroke that added body and depth to his compositions. His still lifes retain the influence of the Spanish tradition of the genre, although treated with a freer execution typical of figurative painting of the mid and second half of the 20th century. Saralegui found in the still life a particularly suitable means to explore the contrasts of light and shadow and the chromatic richness of simple objects. His known production is mainly linked to private collections.
