Pre-Columbian, South Coast Peru, Proto-Nazca, ca. 500–300 BCE. A figural textile fringe of camelid fiber (alpaca or llama), worked in crimson, maroon, aqua, sage, wheat, cream, coffee, fuchsia and black. Twenty muñeca (“doll”) heads are attached along a colorful rectangular panel, above twenty-two pairs of legs. Each head has thick, sweeping locks of brown hair, a stylized body and an expressive face. Figural fringes of this kind edged garments and textiles in the early south-coast tradition that links Paracas and Nazca. Mounted on a museum-quality display fabric.
