All auctions / Asian Art / Panel with carved angels, European School, 17th Century

Descriptio Carved wood. Measures 67.5 x 29 cm. This horizontally arranged decorative panel is conceived as a richly worked frieze in relief, integrating figures of angels and cherubs within an ornamental framework of volutes, scrolls, and vegetal motifs. Two full-length angels flank the composition, with outstretched wings and dynamic poses, while cherub heads emerge from among the decorative elements, adding visual rhythm and depth. The relief is pronounced, with a vigorous treatment of volumes and a marked contrast of light and shadow that enhances the expressiveness of the whole. The surface retains a warm patina that underscores the nobility of the material and reveals the passage of time. The formal language and iconography coherently reflect European decorative production of the 17th century, where wood carving played an essential role in architectural and furniture ornamentation, endowing the piece with considerable artistic and decorative value. Due to its age and history of use, this lot may show signs of wear and previous interventions. Unless explicitly stated otherwise, no specialized technical testing has been performed. The absence of any mention of restorations does not guarantee that none exist. You may request additional information before placing a bid. This does not affect the buyer’s statutory rights. Lot in international warehouse (within the EU). Intra-EU shipment: no import duties apply within the EU. Export permit from the country of origin may be required.
