PAIR OF VIKING PERIOD BRONZE TORTOISE BROOCHES WITH RAVENS

Ca. AD 800 - 900 A pair of bronze tortoise brooches, each cast as an elongated oval shell with a convex upper face, narrow flange at the rim and an integral transverse bar with catch for the pin on the reverse. The exterior is decorated with stylised raven heads with curved beaks, set within a surrounding field of linear and scroll ornament. Size: 85-85mm x 52-52mm; Weight: 146g.
