On the sides are poetic inscriptions in Chinese characters drawn in black and red enamel, bearing traditional inscriptions such as "Written at Changjiang" (Jingdezhen) and marked by seals and dedications ("Lantang Jingzeng"). The shoulders of the vases are embellished with lion-head handles with a ring (Pushou) enamelled in coral red.
