(*) Pablo Ruiz Picasso (born in Málaga, Spain; October 25, 1881 – died in Mougins, France; April 8, 1973), known as Picasso, was a Spanish painter and sculptor who, together with Georges Braque and Juan Gris, contributed to the development of Cubism. Considered one of the greatest artists of the 20th century, he participated in the genesis of many artistic movements that spread around the world and influenced many other major artists of his time. Tireless and prolific, he painted over two thousand works currently housed in museums and collections across Europe and the world. In addition, he explored other genres such as drawing, printmaking, book illustration, sculpture, ceramics, and stage and costume design for theatrical productions. In political terms, Picasso identified as pacifist and communist. He was a member of the French Communist Party until his death, on April 8, 1973 in Notre-Dame-de-Vie (Mougins, France) at the age of 91. He is buried in the park of the Château de Vauvenargues (Bouches-du-Rhône).
