These original works had been secretly held by friends of Picasso, such as Geneviève Laporte, who had met Picasso in the late 1940s and with whom he developed a close relationship in the early 1950s. This exhibition received worldwide media coverage, as the discovery and public unveiling of 42 previously unknown works marked a first for this artist. The number 18 in the bottom right-hand corner of the artwork corresponds to the number of the drawing shown amongst the 42 on display.
