Format: 60 x 80 cm. Pablo Picasso (1881-1973) was a Spanish painter, sculptor, printmaker and one of the most influential artists of the 20th century. Picasso was born in Málaga, Spain, and showed extraordinary artistic talent from a young age. In his early twenties he moved to Paris, where he became a central figure in the city’s vibrant art scene. Picasso is known as a co-founder of the Cubist movement, together with Georges Braque. His work evolved through several periods, each characterized by its own styles and themes, such as the Blue Period, the Rose Period, the African-influenced period, and Surrealism. He continually experimented with different techniques and materials, pushing the boundaries of traditional art forms. Picasso's prolific output and innovative approach have made him one of the most respected artists in history. His works are highly sought after and regularly fetch top prices at auction. For example, his painting "Les Femmes d’Alger (Version O)" sold at auction in 2015 for $179.4 million, setting the record at the time for the most expensive painting ever sold at auction. "Colombe Bleue" (1961), translated as "Blue Dove," is one of Picasso’s key works from his later years. The painting depicts a stylized dove, a symbol of peace, in a vivid blue. The simplicity of the form, combined with the striking color, embodies Picasso’s mastery of line and composition. The dove motif has special significance, as Picasso’s dove design was used as the emblem for the First International Peace Conference in Paris. This image became synonymous with the peace movement and reinforced Picasso’s role not only as an artist but also as a cultural and political icon. "Colombe Bleue" reflects Picasso’s ongoing engagement with themes of peace and humanism, which strongly resonated in the post-World War II context. The work illustrates his ability to convey deep messages with deceptively simple imagery, evidence of his enduring genius and influence in the art world.
