Formaat: 60 x 80 cm. Pablo Picasso (1881-1973) was a Spanish painter, sculptor, printmaker and one of the most influential artists of the 20th century. Picasso was born in Malaga, Spain, and showed extraordinary artistic talent from a young age. Around twenty he moved to Paris, where he became a central figure in the vibrant art scene of the city. Picasso is known as co-founder of the Cubist movement, together with Georges Braque. His work developed in different periods, each characterized by its own styles and themes, such as the Blue Period, the Rose Period, the period inspired by African art and Surrealism. He continually experimented with different techniques and materials, pushing the boundaries of traditional art forms. Picasso's prolific body of work and innovative approach have made him one of the most respected artists in history. His works are highly sought after and regularly fetch top prices at auctions. For example, his painting "Les Femmes d'Alger (Version O)" was auctioned in 2015 for $179.4 million, setting the record for the most expensive painting sold at auction at the time. "'Colombe Bleue" (1961), translated as "Blue Dove", is one of Picasso's major works from his later years. The painting depicts a stylized dove, a symbol of peace, in a vivid blue. The simplicity of the form, combined with the striking color, embodies Picasso's mastery of line and composition. The dove motif has special significance, as Picasso's dove design was used as the emblem for the First International Peace Conference in Paris. This image became synonymous with the peace movement and reinforced Picasso's role not only as an artist, but also as a cultural and political icon. "Colombe Bleue" reflects Picasso's ongoing engagement with themes such as peace and humanism, which resonated strongly in the context of the period after World War II. The work illustrates his ability to convey deep messages with deceptively simple imagery, a testament to his enduring genius and influence in the art world. Comparable artists in terms of innovation and market value include contemporaries such as Henri Matisse and later successors such as Jackson Pollock and Andy Warhol. All these artists have shaped the art market through their own styles and conceptual depth, and have achieved some of the highest auction prices in the world.
