ORIENT THREE STAR / TRI-STAR AUTOMATIC VINTAGE – BLUE DIAL – DAY-DATE – BICOLOR – CIRCA 1970s Elegant vintage Orient Three Star / Tri-Star automatic, probably from the 1970s or early 1980s, with an attractive two-tone configuration and blue dial. Japanese mechanical watch with distinctly seventies styling, cushion case, coin edged bezel in gold tone, applied indices, gold-tone hands, and day/date double calendar via two independent windows. The dial preserves the characteristic Orient emblem and the three stars, the identifying element of the well-known Three Star / Tri-Star family. FEATURES Brand: Orient Collection: Three Star / Tri-Star Origin: Japan Estimated era: 1970s / early 1980s Movement: mechanical automatic Caliber: not confirmed; probably Orient 46/469 family, pending opening/verification Functions: hours, minutes, seconds, day of the week and date Dial: blue with satin/iridescent finish Indices: applied, gold tone Hands: gold-toned Calendar: double, day and date in separate windows Case: cushion type, stainless steel finish Bezel: coin-edged/knurled in gold tone Case back: threaded, signed Orient Strap: black leather, apparently replacement Crystal: domed; exact material not confirmed Reference: not legible in available photographs MEASUREMENTS Case width without crown: approx. 36–37 mm Case width with crown: approx. 38–39 mm Lug-to-lug: approx. 41–42 mm Thickness: approx. 10–11 mm Width between lugs: approx. 18 mm As a reference, other vintage blue Orient automatics from this era measure around 38 mm including the crown and about 41 mm in length, though there is considerable variation between cases. BLUE DIAL One of the main attractions of this model. Blue dial with a satin/iridescent appearance that shifts considerably with changing light. At the top sits the characteristic Orient emblem, with red shield and gold elements. Hour indices are applied, faceted geometry, in gold tone. Central hands are also gold, including the central seconds hand. Towards the bottom you can see the distinctive three stars, associated with the Three Star / Tri-Star family from Orient. The dial shows signs of age and some small marks/patina visible in photos, but it retains a very attractive vintage presentation. I would not claim that the dial has been restored or is completely original without physical inspection; visually it presents a coherent configuration for an Orient Three Star of its era. DOUBLE CALENDAR One of the most interesting quirks of this watch is the calendar layout. Instead of the typical combined day/date window at 3 o’clock, we have: Day of the week: approximately at 9 o’clock Date: at 3 o’clock In the photographs, the day indicator shows “MAR”, presumably Tuesday, while the date shows 5. CASE Case with distinctive 70s aesthetics, cushion/TV style, with angular lines and relatively short lugs. The surface shows numerous scratches and signs of wear, especially on the upper and side areas. The overall geometry of the case remains visible and gives it the robust look characteristic of Orient automatic watches from this era. GOLD KNURLED BEZEL The bezel is especially striking. It features a gold tone finish and a pronounced knurled/ridged design, creating an aesthetic reminiscent of classic fluted bezels. The contrast between: - silver case + gold bezel + blue dial + gold indices is probably the most visually appealing element of this piece. The gold finish shows aging and wear typical of use. AUTOMATIC MOVEMENT The watch belongs to the well-known Orient Three Star family, widely associated with Orient’s automatic movements. Many vintage Three Star models use 21-jewel movements from the 46/469 family, an automatic architecture known for its simplicity and robustness. Documented Three Star vintage pieces exist with calibers 46941, 46943 and 46946, among other variants. CASE BACK Screwed case back with central medallion and Orient emblem. STRAP Black leather strap with light-colored stitching.
